Budget

What can different budgets buy?

A few hundred to a few thousand dollars a week: test the water

Citybus rear panels start from HK$700 per bus per week and pedestrian side panels from HK$1,400–1,600 per bus per week (production and installation included). A single MTR 4-Sheet starts from around HK$5,000 per week at the station of your choice.

One-off events: under HK$50,000

A tailor-made shuttle bus with a full wrap costs HK$38,000 in total for 3 days (printing and production included), on a route of your choice — ideal for event transport, promotional parades and product launches. See Tailor Made Shuttle Bus for details.

Creating buzz: exclusive media

MOTIV Group is the exclusive agent for the 247 Fitness Scent-i-Screen: 5% SOV costs around HK$68,000 per 4 weeks (across 5 locations), or you can buy on CPM (HK$50 CPM, minimum 300,000 impressions). The open-top sightseeing bus starts from around HK$120,000 per week, with a 2-hour Superside banner from HK$28,000 — great for parades, launches and fan events.

From HK$80,000 a week: Network coverage

Network packages for KMB and Citybus bus bodies, bus shelter lightboxes, MTR 4-Sheet and Escalator Crown start from around HK$80,000 per week — suited to product launches or getting seen across the whole city in a short time.

From HK$150,000 a week: maximum presence

MTR 12-Sheet Network, Poster on Wall, Platform Screen Door and Concourse Zones — for brands that want a premium image or to own an entire location.

Choosing an Agency

5 questions to ask before choosing an outdoor advertising agency

  • How broad is their media range? An agency that handles MTR, bus and tram can match media to your target customers, rather than just selling whatever positions it has on hand.
  • Does the quote include production and installation? Many quotes cover only the media rental, with printing, installation and removal charged separately — for example MTR Poster on Wall and bus shelter lightboxes. Bus bodies, MTR 4-Sheet/12-Sheet and tram bodies already include production and installation. Ask for the full total before you book.
  • Is there a peak season surcharge? Citybus and bus shelter lightboxes add 15% from September to December. MTR and trams also carry a 15% peak season surcharge, but their peak months vary by year. KMB has none.
  • How much lead time do bookings and approvals need? Popular MTR concourse positions may need to be reserved months ahead, MTR Poster on Wall artwork must be submitted 3–4 weeks in advance, and trams should be booked 1–2 months ahead.
  • Do they have relevant case studies? Check which brands and campaigns they have worked on, especially in your industry or type of fan campaign.

Citybus rear panels (Super Rear) start from HK$700 per bus per week. On the MTR, the cheapest option is a single 4-Sheet, from around HK$5,000 per week.

Which is best: MTR, bus or tram advertising?+

It depends on your target customers and budget. The MTR has the most formats and the highest footfall; buses have the lowest entry cost and moving exposure; trams generate the most buzz but only cover Hong Kong Island.

Do outdoor advertising quotes include production?+

Not always. Bus body, MTR 4-Sheet/12-Sheet and tram body quotes include production and installation, but MTR Poster on Wall and bus shelter lightboxes charge production and installation separately — ask before you book.

How far ahead should I book outdoor advertising?+

Popular MTR concourse positions may need to be reserved months ahead; trams and popular tram stops should be booked 1 to 2 months ahead; MTR Poster on Wall artwork must be submitted 3 to 4 weeks in advance for approval.

What should I look for in an outdoor advertising agency?+

Ask about their media range, whether quotes include production and installation, peak season surcharges, booking and approval lead times, and check whether they have relevant case studies.
